Becky Lynch To Star In New WWE Comic
On July 3, wrestling fans and comic book readers alike were thrilled to learn that BOOM! Studios will be teaming up with the WWE again. This time a new ongoing series will focus on WWE’s weekly televised show, SmackDown Live. The announcement was made during The Road to San Diego, a ten-day spotlight event that announces new and upcoming comic books and graphic novels in advance,
Written by Kevin Panetta (Bloom) with art by Kendall Goode (WWE), this new series will add fuel to the flames of excitement that readers and fans already have for BOOM!’s previous WWE series. Artist Xermánico (Injustice:Gods Among Us) will add extra flair by creating the main cover for this acclaimed series.
Back in early June, it was announced that BOOM! Studios was ending their WWE comic book series, with issue #25 being the last issue. It saddened many comic and wrestling fans, as some of their favorite wrestlers including Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, the Women’s Revolution, and even The Wyatt Family had their own spotlighted story lines, that hooked readers into these character’s roles both on TV and in the comic book pages.
Like great superheroes, BOOM! Studios and the WWE teamed up to save the day, and reworked their relationship to create what could be another great addition their already published collection. What wrestling fans didn’t know is that this series will be extremely special, as it follows the biggest name in the WWE right now, “The Man” Becky Lynch.
Editor Chris Rosa of BOOM! Studios believes that, out of all the WWE Superstars, Lynch’s character is currently the best to focus on, especially with all the hype that has followed her since she won both the RAW and SmackDown’s women’s championships during the main event match at WrestleMania 35 this past April. “The Man is one of the most electrifying Superstars to hit the ropes, and what better way to begin a new era of SmackDown Live than with Becky Lynch in the lead?” said Rosa. “Current WWE Superstars collide with WWE Legends, who are all here for one of the biggest and most unpredictable nights that they’ll ever face in the ring.”
The comic follows Lynch as she is getting ready for the new premiere of SmackDown, which will be moving to Friday nights starting this fall. As she arrives to the arena, she runs into some rather big names on the SmackDown roster including The Brothers of Destruction (Undertaker and Kane), the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IIconics (Peyton Royce and Billie Kay), WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, and many more.
How will “The Man” compose herself now that she is the big face of the company? Will she form new alliances, or will she stick out like a sore thumb among the already established SmackDown roster?
Print copies of WWE SMACKDOWN LIVE #1 will be available on sale October 2 at local comic book stores. To find out if BOOM! Studios comics are available near you, go to comicshoplocator.com
