Days of Wonder Introduces a New Roll & Write Game: Corinth

Days of Wonder has released a new “Roll and Write” game called Corinth. The game is set in the ancient world, on a harbor and players assume the roles of merchants trying to make their fortune and gain renown. The game accommodates 2-4 players.

The game functions exactly how you would expect considering it is called a “Roll and Write.” It comes with a pad of paper, 7 white dice, 3 yellow dice, a board, and a rule book. Each round, the white dice are rolled and are assigned to the player board. Players then take turns drafting the dice and marking the acquired dice on their papers. The resources collected can be used to construct buildings which give the player extra abilities and count as victory points at the end of the game. Players attempt to gain as many goods and victory points as possible in the limited amount of rounds allowed (the number of rounds changes with the amount of players).

Corinth is a great size, has simplistic but effective components, cute art, and plays in less than 45 minutes. This is a great game for all ages and would make a great travel game because it is lightweight, plays quickly, and is easy to set up and take down. There are several paths to victory and it is simple to adapt if the dice aren’t falling the way you want. The amount of strategies available to players gives this title extensive replayability.

I highly recommend this game and am very happy to see the recent surge in roll and write games in popularity. I think this one will score among the best of the genre and is worth adding to your collection.

Summary

Great game overall, but the rule book has some confusing parts and if it weren’t for online resources deciphering the game would have been a significant issue.
