New ‘Matrix’ Confirmed: Michael B. Jordan, Possibly Wachowskis

Rumors about another Matrix film have been present since the sequels hit theaters in 2003. But recently they escalated further when John Wick 3 director Chad Stahelski “confirmed” it was happening and he would love to be involved.

Now Discussing Film is reporting exclusively that a new Matrix film will soon go into production under Warner Bros and that both Lana and Lilly Wachowski are signed on to direct. Michael B. Jordan is attached to star.

As previously reported by THR, Zak Penn will write the screenplay and Michael B Jordan will star. We have learned that the Wachowskis will return to direct the film and will begin production in early 2020 in Chicago, they have been secretly prepping the film under the working title “Project Ice Cream”. Plot details are currently under wraps for the film however the project is already beginning to fill out it’s crew with Hugh Bateup, who was an art director on 1999’s ‘The Matrix’ set to return to the franchise as the production designer for this film.

As we previously reported, Stahelski said that the Wachowskis are gearing up for another chapter of the Matrix saga, however there is still very little proof to tie them to the project now confirmed as moving forward. We also now know that not only is Michael B. Jordan starring, but his production company Outlier Society Productions will be involved.

Exactly what the new Matrix film will follow is still not confirmed by anybody involved. We do know that the Wachowskis have talked extensively about the world they created around the original trilogy, meaning it is very possible it’s not a direct sequel. With Jordan confirmed, a Morpheus prequel, something rumored many years ago, is a possible story arc.

We’ll keep you posted as the news rolls in, but in the meantime let us know what you think about more Matrix coming in the comments below.
