E3 2019: Marvel’s Avengers Game Revealed

Square Enix revealed details about the Marvel’s Avengers game at E3 2019, with the great news that it will stand on its own and not be impacted by the MCU.

The new game will take players on an epic journey delivered over multiple years. You’ll assemble into teams of up to four players online, master extraordinary abilities, customize a growing roster of Heroes, and defend the Earth from escalating threats.

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own Helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

The key first take away from the trailer is that Crystal Dynamics has created custom looks for each character, meaning Tony Stark is not Robert Downey Jr. in this world. Each character is drastically different than their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterpart, giving us an entirely new world to work with. Among the playable characters includes Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor. Crystal Dynamics as recruited some notable voice acting talent, including Troy Baker and Nolan North, to voice the five heroes.

Marvel’s Avengers represents a worldwide collaboration across Marvel Games, Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest.

The game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, and it’s releasing on May 15th, 2020.
