Scout Comics Introduces Princess Revolution
On June 5th Princess Revolution hit comic book store shelves. We got a first look at Chapter One of this series. This fresh off the press comic by Elaine Tipping takes readers to fantasy world. The artwork is beautiful and the story teases a romance adventure. The princess is a wizard or a mage (named Celyse) and is betrothed to Eten, who seems to be a prince from another kingdom. They appear to be truly in love and the reader gets a lovely glimpse of how cute these two are together but, like in all adventure tales, tragedy strikes.
The art is done in a sketch style and compliments the story well. It is all in black and white except for the cover art. Tipping seamlessly blends traditional fantasy comic art with a hint of Manga. She also does an excellent job balancing the action in the panels with the written story line. My one very nit picky critique, is that Eten and the guard that the princess encounters later look incredibly similar. Other than that the artist has done well depicting the story.
This comic series is off to a good start. The reader is given a solid idea of who this Celyse is and what to expect from her. She is a strong female character that is deeply in love with her fiancé. Eten also is depicted well. He is encouraging of the main character, knows her interests, and respects her abilities and talents. It appears the princess and Eten are in a very healthy relationship. The comic offers a twist on the old princess trope as Eten ends up being the one in danger and the princess sets out to be the one to save him.
I am ecstatic to see what the future of this comic brings! Tipping has created a world ripe with opportunities and an adventure that has the potential to take many twists and turns along the way. The depth she is able to give to the characters in so few of panels makes me optimistic for this series.
