New ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Trailer Returns Sarah Connor
Over 35 years, five feature films, and a short-ran television series, we have been given story after story under The Terminator franchise tag. In November of 2019, we will get another.
Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger return in Terminator: Dark Fate.
The latest installment is set to serve as a sort of retconned sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day. James Cameron returns in the producer role, while Tim Miller (Deadpool) is tagged to direct. Newcomers to the franchise include Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna, and Diego Boneta.
The trailer, set to a bad-ass song, shows Luna’s character as a mash-up terminator bringing in aspects of both the original Terminators as well as the metallic shapeshifting terminators from T2. We get to see Grace (Davis) as a cyborg, and she fights to protect Dani Ramos (Reyes). Once they are backed into the corner, Sarah Connor (Hamilton) steps out of the truck and back into her action roots to help. There is a touching but brief reunion between the original Terminator (Schwarzenegger) and Connors, and there is a ton of new CGI packed into just over two minutes.
Despite the box office failures of the previous two big screen entries, and the short run of the Sarah Connor series, Terminator: Dark Fate seems to return to its roots to deliver a gritty story on a gritty canvas using the characters from decades ago. This Paramount project is being looked upon to carry the label through the holiday season, and after this first glance, it may just pick up where T2 left off.
