TNT is #AllElite
TNT is back in the wrestling business, and this time they are #AllElite!
Wednesday morning, WarnerMedia, parent company of TNT, announced their participation in a multi-platform deal with upstart wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW). TNT will air live AEW matches in prime-time starting in the fall.
The deal also will also include live streaming of AEW matches on B/R Live and on pay-per-view.
The last time TNT aired professional wrestling was during the famed “Monday Night Wars”, when they aired World Championship Wrestling’s “WCW Monday Nitro” from 1995 – 2001.
This deal officially puts AEW in competition for prime-time television ratings with sports-entertainment juggernaut, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
During a Warner Media press conference Michael Quigley, executive vice president, commercial operations, content strategy and monetization at TBS and TNT said “All Elite Wrestling is a talent-forward, fan-first league whose inclusive approach to creating high-quality athletic wrestling competitions is already making waves with fans and attracting top-tier wrestlers.” Tony Khan, president and CEO of AEW, said in a statement “Wrestling fans have wanted — and needed — something different, authentic and better for far too long. AEW is answering the call. AEW is about more than wrestling. It’s about a movement fueled by wrestling fans who have been under-served and perhaps even disappointed by what the industry has produced in recent years.”
AEW was launched in January and has a roster filled with some of wrestling’s top performers. This includes Chris Jericho, Kenny Omega, Cody, the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), “Hangman” Page, Brandi Rhodes, and SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky).
AEW’s first pay-per-view Double or Nothing, will air Saturday, May 25th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Additionally, hour-long Double or Nothing pre-show will also air on WarnerMedia and AEW social media channels.
