Chad Stahelski Confirms Wachowskis Working on More ‘Matrix’
The Enter The Matrix video game and The Animatrix collection of animated shorts were highly praised and well received as supplemental material to a blockbuster trilogy we all are at least aware of. Much of these extras left the fans asking for more. So it seemed only right that when The Wachowskis left The Matrix franchise at its Neo filled conclusion, they were very up front with their intentions of expanding the world even further down the road.
Apparently, Warner Bros and Zak Penn have been working on what many believe to be a relaunch of the franchise; something happening to nearly every blockbuster franchise these days. But according to John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum director Chad Stahelski, the Wachowskis are very much a part of the conversation.
During an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, Stahelski said that the Wachowskis are gearing up for another chapter of the Matrix saga, however he didn’t embellish on any details.
“I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a Matrix, but they’re expanding what we all loved,” Stahelski said. “And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car.”
When Yahoo asked Stahelski if the Wachowskis were directing the new film, he replied, “I’m not sure of the overall. I’m not sure if Lana [Wachowski] is.”
Chad Stahelski, for those that aren’t aware, worked on The Matrix trilogy with The Wachowskis, one of many understudies that have gone on to become big time action directors. And as stated above to Yahoo, Stahelski would be happy to return to that role.
I, personally, am a huge fan of what The Matrix franchise accomplished, both in story and in revolutionizing action films. The Wachowskis went on to accomplish other, often underrated feats, but everybody has always affiliated them with this franchise for nothing but good reasons. When they left the franchise to move on to other projects, they said they’d revisit it when film technology caught up with what they wanted to do. Thanks to the likes of James Cameron and others, we’re seeing amazing things happen with frame-rates, use of 3D, and much more, leaving me to believe there is plenty of truth to all of this.
We’ll soon find out if Warner Bros revisits this AI powered world. In the meantime, let us know what you think about these rumors in our comments section below.
