Earthworm Jim Returns Exclusive to Intellivision Amico
Against all odds and expectations, Earthworm Jim will be blasting his way back into our homes in 2020. The release was announced as an exclusive for the forthcoming Intellivision Amico.
Earthworm Jim is under development by many from the original team including creator Doug TenNapel and Tommy Tallarico, the series’ composer and sound designer.
The original Earthworm Jim game was released in 1994 for the Sega Genesis, and received releases on other consoles after becoming a success. I remember playing the games as a kid, too young to get all of the jokes, not agile enough to really master the platforms. I mean, I was regularly getting my ass kicked by the giraffes in The Lion King game. Earthworm Jim was just not a character I ever thought we would get to see again, much less in a fresh new game.
The announcement of this game feels confusing to me, especially after watching the intro video for the Amico. If it wasn’t May 1, I’d believe this was an April Fool’s joke. However, I feel like there’s definitely got to be a set of fans out there who are stoked about this announcement. For those of you who want to know more about the upcoming Earthworm Jim game, you’ll have to tune in on May 4th at 12 p.m. PT for a live streaming event hosted by Intellivision on Twitch, Facebook, and YouTube.
Alright y’all, did anyone really ask for this? Are you excited about the return of Earthworm Jim? Are you as confused about this as I am? Let us know in the comments.
