Disney Announces ‘Star Wars’: Galaxy’s Edge Dates
Today during the annual share holder’s meeting in St. Louis, and via their Disney Parks Blog, Disney officially announced the opening dates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. That’s right. The wait is over. And since we’ve all been so excited and pestering Disney with questions about the new additions to the parks, they announced that you’ll be able to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland in California starting on May 31st and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando starting August 29th.
With this announcement, they also gave some insight into what you can expect in May. They’re calling it “phase one” and it seems like a soft opening. I can’t remember Disney ever doing something like this before, but they have a new policy to help with crowding in the new addition:
“Guests planning to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland park in California between May 31 and June 23, 2019 will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date on Disneyland.com and the Disney Parks Blog. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required.”
I was at Universal’s Islands of Adventures the second weekend that Harry Potterworld was open and I can tell you it was a madhouse. I waited in a 3-hour long line just to get into the new area and then wait in even more lines to do anything there. Hopefully, this will help alleviate some of those issues.
I would say that if you want to go, stay on property. It might be a bit more expensive but every time I’ve stayed on property at an amusement park it’s always been worth it. The big advantage here, is that it ensures you have access to Galaxy’s Edge to experience everything it has to offer, not to mention they’ll send anything you buy (you know you’re going to buy all the things) to your room for you so you don’t have to carry them throughout the park.
Make sure to tell us if you’re going to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge so you can brag about it to everyone who reads this.
