Crowdfund It: The Game Designers
Have you ever wondered about the work that goes into bringing your favorite board games to a store near you? How does a game go from an idea to being a physical object you have in your home? Well wonder no more! Zoom Out Media has created a new documentary focusing on game designers.
The trailer on the Kickstarter highlights the struggles, the anxiety, and impostor syndrome that many designers encounter while creating and play-testing their creations. Zoom Out Media appears to be interviewing a wide variety of designers at varying stages in their careers. We see Matt Leacock, the creator of Pandemic, several times in the trailer, along with some up-and-coming designers such as Kelly North Adams (creator of Veggie Garden, 2016). The trailer looks spectacular. The composition appears to be well done, the background music sounds good, the production quality looks to be great, and I adore the cartoon-like versions of the designers that are used on the title and throughout the Kickstarter campaign story. Each designer got a cartoon version of themselves based on the games they created.
After the trailer ends, Director Eric Rayl talks about all the work that went into creating the documentary, which he has been working on for 3 years. From the snippets we get of the filming process, we can see Eric went to most (if not all) of the big gaming conventions: GenCon, Essen, and PAX. As a board game nerd I am very excited to check out this film. The Kickstarter for The Game Designers ends on March 7, 2019. Please consider backing this project and help unlock some of those stretch goals!
