Crowdfunding Spotlight: L.U.C.H.A.: A Wrestling Sci-Fi Thriller
“Non-stop and full of energy, this book is irresistible!” – Mark Waid, writer (Captain America, Kingdom Come, Doctor Strange)
Hello! My name is CW Cooke and I’ve been working in independent comics since 2007. My first creator-owned series, Solitary, recently obtained a production/development deal for film and television after a very successful Kickstarter run and comic book store sell-outs.
I wanted to talk to you about my new series, L.U.C.H.A.! Co-created with artist Travis Hymel and with colors by Jeremy Kahn and letters and logo by Micah Myers, we’re working hard to bring our newest idea, L.U.C.H.A., to life. And Agente needs your help!
“Who could resist a comic about a crime-fighting Luchador…and why would you even try?” – Mark Russell, writer (The Flintstones, Snagglepuss Chronicles, Lone Ranger)
L.U.C.H.A. is the story of Agente, a luchador detective who spends his life solving low level crimes and murders, taking on any job that falls in his lap. He just so happens to get wrapped up in a murder campaign that involves vampires, wrestlers, and other notorious figures before the rug gets pulled out from under him…and the readers!
“L.U.C.H.A. is the Watchmen of Luchador/secret agent/monster fighting/absurdly fun comics. Lucha Libre Action! Lucha Libre Excitement! Lucha Libre Intrigue! What more do you people want?” – Ryan Prows, filmmaker (Lowlife)
L.U.C.H.A. is one of the most fun things I’ve worked on in comics. Born from a simple idea as part of the Kayfabe anthology (a wrestling comic anthology put together by comic creators and wrestling fans alike, with the emphasis on wrestling as real), this story about Agente took on a life of its own because of the incredible working chemistry Travis and I had and the unbelievably insane story we came up with. The first ten pages will rock your socks off and after that it will swerve and take your breath away.
“Exciting, clever, quirky, and action-packed! CW Cooke and Travis Hymel deliver full-blast fun and thrills. Cooke’s script is fast-paced and original and Hymel’s art is top-notch! Two thumbs way up!” – Brian Augustyn, writer and editor (Batman: Gotham By Gaslight, Flash, Archie 1941)
I’ve wanted to make a comic that was this insane for a long time, and I’ve found the perfect partners in crime. And we need your help because this beautiful work will require a lot to deliver the goods.
By pledging you’re helping us see the series through to issue four. We’re keeping our rewards focused around issue one, to keep this campaign simple, but we’ll be sure to update you whenever new issues are available as well, and try to come up with some extra perks down the line to remember the backers who helped make this book’s launch possible. So please hit the link, check out the incredible art, and help us make this amazing comic book series!
