Cosplay With a Heart
If you spend much time on our site you know that we love cosplay. The energy and fun you can have with a group of cosplayers is hard to match. But it’s even better when that energy and excitement are put to an amazing cause. SUPER HEROES TO KIDS IN OHIO is a Ohio non-profit that dresses up as familiar costumed crusaders to help patients endure the adversity of health issues.
One big event they put on takes place annually in Elyria, Ohio. “The event […] highlights children who have battled adversity (medical or otherwise). They honor these children (with family accompanying) as real-life super heroes, AKA The Super Kids. They assist well known characters with saving the city from the clutches of vile super villains. This year, they had over 40 super heroes and super villains involved in 6 skits throughout the city of Elyria.” I really can’t say enough how awesome this is.
As a child I battled medical issues and having something like this would have been very cool and empowering. “The fate of the city rested in the hands of ‘The Super Kids’ as they assisted popular super heroes in rescuing them from various predicaments, then capturing the villains and turning them over to the proper authorities–including the local police and the National Guard.” This is just the coolest idea and I’m sure the kids have an absolute blast.
“This is the 5th year they have participated as an organization, but the 3rd year that they have run a giant, coordinated virtual event for children battling serious adversity; illness, loss, or otherwise.” I just want to say ‘Thank you’ to everyone involved in this and I hope to someday be able to help. Until then check out the gallery and make sure to notice all the smiling faces. The event drew more than 2,000 people this year.
