‘Versus Zoom’ Flash 2.18 Recap
Warning: Our television series recaps contain spoilers of the episode being reviewed as well as episodes leading up to it.
CW’s The Flash returns after a few weeks, and right off the bat we’re back to trying to get Barry’s speed up higher. A quick refresher: Wells needs to get his daughter back, and Barry wants to go faster. These are the main points that are being explored in this episode, but Barry and co. find resistance when they’re trying to find a way to get back to Earth-2 and Wells is wholeheartedly opposed to it.
Wally and Joe’s relationship seems to be taking a turn for the better, though, which is a nice change over the catastrophic, strained tension that existed between them initially. It’s opening up possibilities for Wally’s character—now that Barry, Wally, and (by extension) Joe, are all on the same page, I’m looking forward to more from Wally as a character and to seeing the relationship between the two expand and grow.
Cisco comes into his power, but through all the character development we’ve received with Cisco, one of the most important is that Cisco is good-hearted. A great scene in the episode involves Cisco being unsure about his future and, more importantly, about his superpowers; a heartfelt moment between Barry and Cisco reinforces the fact that Team Flash is just that—a team.
As always, Zoom is central to the storyline and, after what seems like ages of trying to capture him, it all comes to a head in this episode. With a little bit of psychological influence and a race between Barry and Zoom, The Flash treats us to a conversation between Barry and Zoom… but (not so unexpectedly) it ends negatively for Team Flash. Very negatively.
Also, all of the Barry/Iris fans out there will find this episode of particular interest—Iris makes a connection and comes to a realization that maybe, just maybe, she’s supposed to be with Barry. It’s exceedingly fleeting, of course, but it’s maybe indicative of things to come.
But, of course, with Flash taking a decidedly dark turn at the end of the episode, who knows if that happy ending is going to be reached. Things never seem to go smoothly for Team Flash, and this is no exception.
