‘Agent Carter: Fight For Wilkes’ Recap

Warning: Our television series recaps contain spoilers of the episode being reviewed as well as episodes leading up to it.

As the two-hour episode opens, Agent Carter and Jarvis find themselves anxiously waiting for Ana to wake up after her emergency surgery after Whitney’s well placed bullet-to-the-stomach stunt. Jarvis is a mess and even displays some masculine fist thumping–I’m impressed. Didn’t think he had it in him. Looks like everyone has a little rage, even our well-mannered, manicured man of many talents and much patience.

Ana wakes up to Jarvis promising the world in a hand basket, allowing him to finish his laundry list and seeing what she is getting in total. Brilliant! Jarvis updates her as best he can without adding worry to fuel the fire, keeping a secret of her injuries and inability to have children hidden from her. Jarvis, Jarvis, Jarvis, wrong move. Women always figure these things out, so it’s better to tell them right away.

Agent Carter is bent on ensuring mission accomplishment, especially with the potential level of possible loss to the team. Diving into a plan for Dr. Wilkes’ rescue, Mr. Stark provides plans for a machine to stop Whitney, Carter devises the required maneuvers and, surprise surprise, Jarvis just can’t seem to stop seeing red. He joins the rescue attempt with a secret plan of his own.

The machine for which Stark provided plans worked, stopping the zero matter merge Whitney had planned for her and Dr. Wilkes. This leaves her angry, upset and unchosen by the zero matter for a merge partner when it was activated in the desert. How do these writers come up with these amazing story lines? Fabulous!

Revenge is the title of his plan and a dead Whitney is his end goal. Beautiful idea but poorly executed. Jarvis sneaks away from Agent Carter and her team while they’re trying to set up the contraption they think will disable Whiney. He drives to the zero matter location and shoots Whitney, stopping her. Her demise was not in the cards, though, as Jarvis forgot she was still filled with zero matter and unable to die.

As her bullet wounds miraculously healed, she jumped up and her mafia thugs thumped Carter and Jarvis on the head and tossed them in a vehicle. As the thugs threw them in a truck and screamed down the road, they both came to and Agent Carter pulled out a heat string to sever the metal lock on the truck door. Her spy aids are almost as unique as Bond’s! Pushing Jarvis out, she jumped behind him and began walking the road while having a heart-to-heart that left Jarvis feeling two inches tall. Carter regretted her honest assessment of Jarvis’ jaunts with her team after learning of the newly acquired sterility of Ana.

After fooling Whitney’s returning thugs, creating a diversion of fake uranium rods and collecting Dr. Wilkes in the bravest-to-date of rescues, Carter is taken aback as Dr. Wilkes becomes a turncoat. He pulls a gun on them, forcing his return to Whitney in a surprise move. Agent Carter doesn’t realize Wilkes is just trying to hang on long enough to destroy Whitney.

The final scene of the 2-hour special gives us a glimpse of Wilkes’ zero matter exploding. Keep eyes on next weeks latest to find out how, when where and why. Hopefully this solves the Whitney situation and doesn’t strengthen her power and destructive nature.

This episode was very exciting, but a little disjointed as the dialogue and action scenes flipped from one to the other so quickly. A dance scene during Agent Carter’s capture was beautiful and filled with talent, but felt a little out of place and not in line with prior episodes. It wasn’t enough to harm the show, but key attraction to the show is due to her love interests. Keep on track writers, please, we want this show to last!
