‘Horror Block October’ Subscription Box Review

This month I was lucky enough to get the chance to review Horror Block! If you don’t know what Horror Block is you’re totally missing out. Like many other companies popping up out there, Horror Block is a nerdy subscription service where they will mail you a box full of surprise goodies. But here’s the best part: it’s all horror-based. That’s what really attracted me to trying this one out. Horror Block is a part of the Nerd Block family. Nerd Block is an assortment of, well, nerdy stuff. There’s also ArcadeSci-FiComicBoys JrGirls Jr. I love the fact that you can pick a theme you know you’ll love. Some other boxes often throw properties in their boxes that I don’t like and then I’m stuck with it. But back to Horror Block–what did we get this month? Let’s take a look.

Titans Aliens 2-Pack Vinyl Figures

Alien Titans

Titans is quite well known for their blind-box vinyl figures. That means you buy a box without knowing what is inside. Well, you usually know the theme. Titans has just released a new line based on the film Alien. Lucky for us Horror Block subscribers, we’re getting an exclusive 2-pack featuring an Alien with its tongue sticking out and Parker with his brains showing. That’s what everyone gets. I love the fact that its exclusive. The normal versions of the Alien have no tongue, and Parker still has his brains. The Xenomorph has never looked cuter!

Death’s Head Moth T-Shirt

Silence Shirt

Coming from ShirtPunch.com, we get a black t-shirt featuring an exclusive design of the Death’s Head Moth. You know, like the one from Silence of the Lambs. While the normal moth only looks like it has a skull in the design of its wings, here there’s an actual skull on the moth. Spooky!

Night of the Living Dead DVD

NOTLD DVD

The grandaddy of all zombie films! On DVD! It’s odd to me that I didn’t already own it. And boy am I glad I didn’t. Here we get an exclusive edition that contains a new documentary, Chronicles of the Living Dead, that features interviews with the original creators and visits to the shooting locations. Though I’m not here to review the film (its excellent by the way).

Horror Face Coaster Set

coasters

Are you worried about drinks ruining your wood tables at your next Halloween party? Horror Block has got you covered. They’ve given us 8 coasters with 16 designs. Got that? Each coaster has two sides. Each side has a creepy face. They’ve even cut an area out, so you can put your nose in there and act like the scary face is yours! Scare your friends! Your Mom! Or if you’re me, your kids. Also another exclusive item.

Night of the Living Dead Magnet Set

NOTLD Magnets

We all know those people who have a bunch of magnets on their fridge with words on them. Maybe you used them to write something nice. Maybe you wrote something perverted. We’re only human. Well, do they have magnets that are made up of quotes from Night of the Living Dead? I doubt it. This is exclusive (there’s that word again).  ‘They’re coming to get you Barbara.’ That’s now on my beer fridge. The world’s best beer fridge.

Rue Morgue Magazine

Rue Morgue

Every month Horror Block comes with a new issue of Rue Morgue, a horror magazine. It says on the cover it’s $10, and it seems well worth it. The magazine is rather large. I’m currently reading an article about the history of Ouija. Pretty interesting.

Horror Block is pretty damn awesome. I had high hopes, and it exceeded my expectations. I love horror films and there was a good chance I’d like all of the properties in the box. Everything seems of high quality, and, except for the magazine, they’re all exclusive items. So even if I didn’t like a particular item I’m sure I could get a few bucks for it. If you’re looking for a subscription box, give the Nerd Block family a try. I can only assume the other boxes are just as awesome. If you’re a horror guy, what are you waiting for? November 5th is when the next box ships. Plans start at $19.99 a month plus shipping.
