And we’re back for another movie update…
Huge news so far this week regarding some of your favorite blockbuster franchises. First up is Man of Steel rumors, which is set to have a trailer release in the next few weeks. Drew McWeeny over at HitFix seems to think that Joseph Gordon Levitt might appear as Batman himself at the end of the film, straight out of the Nolan franchise. To some degree, it makes sense right? The franchise was popular, it seems like the idea of JGL taking over as Batman caused little controversy among movie audiences, and it would finally tie the universes together that would no doubt excite audiences. But creatively, I can’t help but feel it’s a bad idea. The ending of The Dark Knight Rises made perfect sense from a thematic standpoint, and there’s simply no need to continue with that. And Bruce Wayne should be in Justice League, not John Blake. Tying Nolan’s franchise into something less grounded will be quite a reach as well. We’ll find out soon enough but I expect this debate to range on well beyond the release of the film itself.
Meanwhile, Bryan Singer, who’s directing X-Men: Days of Future Past confirmed today that Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicolas Hoult are all set to return for the film from X-Men: First Class. The exciting news however is that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are returning to the series as Professor Xavier and Magneto! I’m not sure how they’re going to do it, but it’s been long speculated this film would bridge the First Class series and original series together (seems to be a common theme today, isn’t it?). I am quite excited to hear this news as I loved both Professor X and Magneto in the original series. At this point, it won’t be long until we hear that Hugh Jackman will also be in the film, which will mean mega blockbuster numbers for this movie if they can round up a huge cast.
Finally, Paramount has let slip some plot details for Star Trek Into Darkness by providing the official synopsis for the film.
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness.
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left; his crew.
As you can see, it looks like the tone will be much more bleak compared to the previous film given the plot synopsis. All will be revealed soon!
