Here it is. The biggest adventure Project-Nerd has ever embarked on. The Cosplay Cookbook!
The Initial Kickstarter Campaign is Complete
Alright fans. The Kickstarter Campaign didn’t make it, falling well short of the original goal. Even though the money wasn’t there for that campaign, so much was there that proved this project is still going to happen.
We say more people commit than we have to any other campaign, and more people in the industry show an interest than we ever thought we would as well. Book publishers, costume builders, and so many others got behind us and have allowed us to regroup and to come up with a plan to break this down into smaller segments and take it on with an extended timeline.
Based on your feedback, recommendations for products and perks, relationships with even more great cosplayers and photographers, and finding avenues to cut some costs we will revisit a campaign with a leaner budget and larger force behind it.
While you’re waiting on updates on this project to continue, feel free to check out the initial Harley Quinn & Robin Shoot that has already taken place and to also get familiar with the information below.
The Cosplay Cookbook
The Cosplay Cookbook will be unlike anything else you’ve ever seen. It’s not just a cosplay book. It’s not just a cookbook. It’s a perfect blend of both worlds offering some of the highest quality scenes from over 18 different cosplayers and actors, shot by 5 amazing photographers, and featuring over 40 incredible recipes.
What if we took some of the most awesome, geeky, and fun recipes we’ve ever tried and put together our own cookbook? Even better, what if we took some of our favorite comic inspired characters and set them in food related scenes to accompany those recipes?
The Cosplay Cookbook is a project we’ve been discussing internally for nearly two years, and the timing, relationships, and funds are all lining up to make 2014 the year we actually make it.
The goal is to create a visually stunning book that is also filled with functional and incredible recipes.
Much of our staff and friends have been cooking for some time and this is the chance to get some of these amazing recipes in front of your face. You want to know how to make an awesome creation called Captain Chocolate Cake? How about crafting some Kryptonite shots for the Batman vs Superman movie party in the future? Why not try some deliciously delicate Bacon Biscuits?
Cosplay is everywhere. Who doesn’t love the idea of portraying your favorite hero, or even your most feared villain? Adding cosplay into the book was an obvious choice from day one. The relationships we’ve established in the industry mixed with the growing fascination with seeing comic book characters outside of their heroic and villainous roles made us immediately reach out to a team of incredible talent in order to create scenes that will serve to entertain and please the aesthetic eye.
Announcements on how we handle casting updates is still to come, but you can expect to see some amazing cosplayers and photographers involved in this project.
We are setting up scenes that feature characters inspired by the DC Comics universe. Each scene will lend incredibly well to the characters in them, with the gallery not just relating to the food we feature in the cookbook but also completely believable in terms of character interactions and behaviors.
Who will you see? Right now we have a number of cosplayers committed to join Erin Lei, including the Harley Quinn & Robin shoot with Cyanide Kisses Cosplay and Wade’s Widdle Workshop that already took place.
There are many others we hope to get involved and a few others that still might stick with it, even with the new schedule.
Based on your feedback, recommendations for products and perks, relationships with even more great cosplayers and photographers, and finding avenues to cut some costs we will revisit a campaign with a leaner budget and larger force behind it. Don’t worry nerds, the Cosplay Cookbook is still coming your way soon!
Q: Why are you shooting in the regions/cities you selected?
A: We are trying to keep expenses down when it comes to travel so we can concentrate more funds on publishing, costumes, and food. These regions have a great selection of models and actors and also some fantastic photographers.
Q: How do I get involved?
A: The biggest thing you can do is share, share, share! Share the announcements as they happen, and share the Kickstarter campaign when it starts. If you are a cosplayer and want to get involved, keep in mind we are trying to keep travel expenses to a minimum and we already have the majority of the cast.
Q: Crowdfunding didn’t work, is this thing still happening?
A: We went big with our initial Kickstarter campaign and came up short. We’re making adjustments based on many things to bring down expenses and extend planning. Stay tuned for more information as we’ll be looking for help again soon.
Q: How much will the books cost?
A: We are not entirely certain at this point, but the standard cookbook format will run $25-30 while the coffee table version will be slightly more expensive.
Q: Where will the funds go?
A: We are still determining what charity we want to donate too, but no matter what a portion of the proceeds will go to a charity related to promoting healthy eating.
Special Note: Project-Nerd’s Cosplay Cookbook is not affiliates with DC Comics and is not intended to profit off of any DC Comic characters or branding. All funds raised for crowdfuning will go towards creating the book while sales of any additional books will contribute to a charitable cause.
