‘Suicide Squad’ Concept Art Shows Different Take On Harley Quinn

The upcoming Comic-Con issue of Entertainment Weekly shows two different looks that actress Margot Robbie could have potentially featured as Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC film Suicide Squad (see below).

The final costume and concept art by costume designer Kate Hawley is said to be inspired by Instagram photos of Mexican drug cartels; as well as the attire that rock and roll icons like Debbie Harry, Courtney Love, and Patti Smith wore.

The concept art is similar to something Harley Quinn would wear in the New 52 comics or the Batman: Arkham video games. The final product for the movie appears to be a mixture of rock n’ roll attire with a comic book aesthetic.

Hawley remarked on the final costume by saying of Harley Quinn, “She’s a girl’s hero. It was understanding how do we make her feel sexy by owning it, as opposed to what a man thinks is sexy.”

What do you think? Do you like the final costume for Harley Quinn? Or were you really hoping for something closer to the original jester outfit from Batman: The Animated Series?

Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters August 5th, 2016.
