‘Power Rangers’ Suits Revealed

Here it is guys and gals, the latest big reveal for the highly anticipated Power Rangers reboot that is sure to divide the fans. After the reveal of Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa costume split the fandom down the middle, now the suits will have their turn.

We’ve been treated to the first look at the new Power Rangers costumes. At this point, it’s nothing more than what appears to be the finalized concept artwork. We’ve yet to see the actors suited up to send Rita packing. What we have here though is very interesting indeed. It goes without saying that, much like the 1995 movie, spandex is out. Replacing it is something that looks like a cross between Iron Man and Guyver. They retain a lot of the design elements of the originals such as the helmet designs and morpher belt buckles.

These new suits may seem like an extreme departure but they really make a lot of sense if you know your Power Ranger history. The suits form around the teens when summoned to protect them in battle and enhance their abilities. On that basis, these costumes look the part. When asked about the change from spandex, production designer Andrew Menzies indicated that the updated look was to make them stand out from the current slew of superhero blockbusters.

The movie is currently in production with Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite at the helm and is due for release by Lionsgate on March 24th 2017.

On a personal note, I’m looking forward to a Goldar reveal soon and I wouldn’t be surprised if a teaser trailer is on its way.
