New ‘Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later’ Series Greenlit by Netflix

Variety has reported that Netflix has green lit a new Wet Hot American Summer series called Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.

Those familiar with the original 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer, were excited when Netflix aired an eight episode tie-in to the movie called First Day of Camp last July (2015).  First Day of Camp featured many of the movie’s original cast – including Michael Ian Black, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd and Bradley Cooper.

Netflix’s upcoming series will take place 10 years after the original 2001 film; however, according to Variety, it should not be considered a sequel to the original film. This series will feature eight 30 minute episodes, and is set to air in the summer of 2017.

While the casting for the new series has yet to be announced, the original creative team behind both previous Wet Hot projects brings back writers Michael Showalter and David Wain, and Wain will direct. Executive producers are Showalter, Wain, Peter Principato, Jonathan Stern and Howard Bernstein.
