‘Job Dun: Fat Assassin #1 & Special Edition’ Comic Review

Coming from Spray Comics, Job Dun Fat Assassin is busting doors and belts left and right. Get it? Job Dun is a Fat Assassin. That’s an assassin who’s fat. If you’re thinking to yourself, how good can a fat assassin be? Well when it’s Job Dun, apparently very good.

Job Dun Fat Assassin takes place in the future. It’s a world both familiar and strange. People still fight and love and are full of lust and greed, but now they do it in spiffy future outfits. Oh, and now they do even more designer-y drugs. Future drugs! Think Blade Runner and Total Recall by way of Transmetropolitan. This world is brightly lit but very dark in its soul.

Mark Hobby is our writer. Mark hales all the way from Australia. Most of my knowledge of Australia comes from Crocodile Dundee and the band Men At Work. I’m sure he’s much more familiar, being from there and all. Hobby writes a brisk action film chock full of robots, nurses, and boobs–like most great things in life. You should probably sprinkle in a little Duke Nukem too.

Ben Michael Byrne is tasked with putting this story to the page. Bryne’s art style is detailed and fits this dark future world quite well. If terribly disproportional women are your thing, then Job Dun has got that in spades. Women have big butts and boobs with small heads and waists. The series reads a little misogynistic, with women basically acting and dressing super sexily. Or they’re there to cause your death. That’s not always a terrible thing in the world of fiction, and Job Dun fits into the niche neatly.

Overall, Job Dun Fat Assassin is an interesting concept that has the potential to bring us fun and compelling stories for years. If you like oddball, futuristic stories featuring blood, gore, nudity, and drugs then pick up Job Dun Fat Assassin. You won’t be disappointed.
