Cosplay Casual: Princess Leia (The Force Awakens)

All of us nerdy types are looking forward to/slightly fearing the release of Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Recently, some cast photos were released of Elder Princess Leia wearing a costume that confirms earlier rendered drawings and fitting images that she will indeed be wearing this in the movie.

But you don’t have to wait until December to dress like Leia. The awesome thing about this particular costume is, you could probably wear it at any time of day and still not look like you’re on your way to a Halloween party.

If you want to dress like the coolest rebel leader of all, here is what you need:

The Shirt: Leia’s shirt is crisp and a dark greenish-grey. Any oxford button-down will work. Cuff the sleeves like you have better things to do, and you’re done.

The Pants: Technically, it looks like Leia’s outfit is a jumpsuit, but there are few business jumpsuits out there. So, I’m settling for this combo. I chose cargo pants because her outfit has a serious “don’t even think about it” vibe.

A Crazy Belt: Leia apparently still has a bit of a fashionable flair because that belt could rival a Texas cowboy’s.

Some No-Nonsense Boots: We don’t see Leia’s shoes in these photos, but I bet she is wearing something sensible like these combat boots. After all, shooting a blaster is way harder in heels.

The Black Vest: Maybe Leia’s planet is cold, but for whatever reason, she’s topped her outfit with a black vest. Any solid black vest will do. I’ve chosen a plain one to stick with the military vibe of her outfit.

The Hair Style: Wrap your hair into an easy bun (Leia is still rocking the long-hair look decades later!) and stroll out the door. You are ready to keep an entire galaxy in line, or prepared to fight the crowds at the grocery store Saturday morning.
