Benicio Del Toro to be Star Wars Villain?

Star Wars: Episode VII hasn’t even been released yet, and the cast for Episode VIII is already bulking up.

The casting news started a few weeks back with the announcement that Donnie Yen will be joining the universe as a Jedi, now it’s a menacing villain role being discussed for Benicio Del Toro.

Del Toro, who recently was The Collector in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is rumored by IMDb to already have been offered the role but a number of other outlets are detailing it as early rumors. Either way, at this point we have no idea what character he will be playing and what his role would look like in the franchise.

Del Toro is capable of playing a menacing and creepy role, so a Sith Lord isn’t out of the question. But his acting chops, winner of Best Supporting Actor for 2001’s Traffic, could lend to a more dialogue driven role that features him in some kind of supposed diplomatic role. Either way, we think there could be room for him in this new universe Disney is creating.

Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, who will first be seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens releasing this Christmas, are all expected to return, with Rian Johnson helming the pic.
