Project-Nerd’s 15 Most Anticipated Games of 2015

This year is poised to be filled with many great video game releases, and the new gaming team at Project-Nerd sat down to put a list together of our most anticipated games of 2015, in no particular order.

No Man’s Sky

It’s no secret that Hello Games’ procedurally generated, space adventure foray is one of the gaming community’s all-around most anticipated productions. We actually don’t know a whole lot about it, but screenshots and video have shown us stunning planets with mysterious creatures, the endless, mysterious abyss of space, and an overall beautiful, incredible game. From what we’ve seen and heard, the game effectively captures the vastness and incredible diversity of space, as well as the unknown that resides all around us–a huge part of its appeal. No Man’s Sky is ambitious and exciting, and I’m looking forward to learning more.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Normally I roll my eyes whenever it’s mentioned something is getting a sequel. But Naughty Dog’s action-adventure series, in which we embark on an adventure as treasure hunter Nathan Drake, has been a favorite of mine from the very first game. Putting this on my list was an absolute no-brainer. It looks beautiful, and the gameplay looks really cool; if the storyline is anything like the past three games, I’m sure it’ll be just as immersive and interesting as fans of the series have come to expect.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture

This game looks incredible. The videos and the screenshots are captivating, as they depict deserted scenes devoid of humanity and shrouded in the mystery presented in the title. The player must explore this world and piece together what has happened to the rest of humanity. More importantly, it looks gloriously creepy–an important tone to capture when we’re dealing with the end times. The Chinese Room seems to have gone all-out on this one, creating a game full of mystery and intrigue that will keep the player investigating.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U

Another game high up on many “most anticipated” lists, Nintendo’s upcoming Zelda title is full of promise, adventure, and beautiful scenery. The Legend of Zelda is extremely well known and everything we’ve seen about the game has been amazing; the gameplay videos and screenshots alone are enough to sell me on this one. A breathtaking, open-world Zelda game on the Wii U? I am so there.

Inside

Playdead Studios brings us a game reminiscent of their previous title, Limbo, complete with a creepy atmosphere and a dark, somewhat sinister mood. Limbo was, and still is, one of my favorite games, unique in design and story, and I’m looking forward to experiencing this aesthetic again.

Mighty No. 9

The spiritual successor to the Mega Man series is set to release this year. After amassing an incredible $3.8 million on Kickstarter, the game has seen some development issues that has pushed back its release. However, it seems like the team at Comcept is on track to get this anticipated side-scrolling game out in 2015.

Evolve

With a highly experienced multiplayer team at work, the game Evolve looks to be the multiplayer game to get in the first half of 2015. Featuring a unique four-versus-one gameplay mode, the game revolves around a team of four humans taking down a human-controlled beast. A lot of people have been able to play the game, thanks to multiple beta tests, and the early reports are extremely positive.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Hideo Kojima always said he would walk away from the Metal Gear Solid series, but here we are, 17 years after the release of the first Metal Gear Solid game, anticipating what is next in the story. MGS V: The Phantom Pain will move the series into a giant open world for the first time, and it looks gorgeous. Plus, this will be the first Metal Gear Solid game to be released simultaneously on both PC and the consoles.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse

This will be the first Dragon Ball fighting game to get released on the new consoles, and it looks like the new technology will be used to make the fights bigger and better. The environments are huge, giving the fighters a large free area in which to roam around. Also, destructible environments will lead to some new epic fights.

Adrift

An easy way to explain Adrift is to imagine the movie Gravity as a video game. Just watching the trailer is exciting and terrifying. The game is also being built from the ground up for the VR headsets, which will make the game even more intense.

Batman: Arkham Knight

With Rocksteady finishing the Arkham trilogy they started with Batman: Arkham Asylum, we are beyond excited to see what final adventure the UK-based developer cooks up for Batman. Featuring a huge open world of Gotham, amazing graphics, and the ability to drive the Batmobile around, Arkham Knight is looking like it could be the best game in the series.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Hotline Miami stormed onto the indie game scene and took everyone by surprise. It was a hyper-violent, top-down shooter featuring an incredible soundtrack that fit the game’s mood perfectly. Hotline Miami 2 is said to feature more of the same things that made us fall in love with Hotline Miami but with more action, more weapons, and more bass-driven songs.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red has proven one of the more trustworthy and talented developers in the gaming industry, and The Witcher 3 looks like it will continue their excellent track record. The game’s world looks fantastic, as we see Geralt hunting down wild beasts. Witcher 3 also features a story with two main branches: the Empire of Nilfgaard invading the Northern Kingdoms and Geralt’s own quest to eliminate the Wild Hunt.

Star Wars Battlefront

The original Battlefront games tried to replicate the feeling of the Battlefield series while being set in the Star Wars universe. DICE, the team behind the Battlefield games, is helming this project; we’re excited to take part in those massive Star Wars battles again. While no release date is set, it is hard to imagine the game not being released alongside Star Wars Episode VII this December.
